The project had considerable challenges.Since you can’t weld aluminium  to stainless steel, we made aluminium gears to help support the project.As a first time project,it came out exceptionally good.A+++ for Aleena.

This 14″ tall vase is made with B-Mix clay and then designed with  Porcelain slip. It was then bisqued fired to 1830*f . Then glazed with Bauers Flashing Slip,  and high lighted with several colored glazes. Loaded into a Soda Fire Kiln and fired to cone eleven, with several reduction periods through out the firing.

A very thin walled form, such as this, has a tendency to harbor stress points when it is stretched to paper thin. I do believe that when the Soda vapors hit the side of the pot the fluxing action of the Soda relaxed that side causing the other side to develop a thin stress crack. The piece was still photographed to capture the beauty of the glaze combinations and the crack is not noticeable to the eye.

This piece was thrown on my wheel, cut , shaped and altered to it’s final shape. Bisqued, coated with bauers flashing slip and various glases, and fired in a Soda kiln. The combination of textures and glazes blends well with the flow of Soda through the kiln to produce some awesome visual effects. There are no two spots on this piece that are alike.

16″ Tall. Carved openings in the upper body of the piece allow subtle wisps of candle light to dance about. By day, this piece demands attention with it’s ever changing texture and color transitions. Darkness allows this form to draw you close with it’s flickering light from within.
